If you are referring to a door prize donation, I would try to find some products that complement your service, and bundle it with your own.

For example, let's say you have a bookkeeping business. You can put together a basket of supplies for a woman's home office – a nice daytimer (perfect for a January tournament!) along with some stationery items, high-end pens, and maybe a little luxury item like some specialty teas or a scented candle. (I did that one year, surprisingly, people loved having scratch pads, sticky notes and nice pens... who couldn't use them?)

Then put in a copy of something YOU created... a book you wrote, a special report on tax-saving tips, a CD from a teleconference call you did, anything that YOU produced.

Of course if you have a big product like a do-it-yourself home study course or a series of workbooks, you can put that in as a stand-alone product. I only suggest the other complementary items as a way to 'pretty it up' and supplement your product if you only have one physically small item.

Also throw in an offer of a discount on a particular service when they visit your website. It can be a BOGO 30-minute phone consultation for example. Once they have that chance to 'try you out', you have a better chance of making the sale for on-going service.

Excellent Stuff Patti! Can you make a suggestion on how a service based business could maximize on these opportunities as apposed to buying a gift from another retailer just to take part. The gift usuallly has nothing to do with what the service based company has to offer.
